Why are there on-going problems concerning Eligibility, Political Credibility and his personal religion?  As you read, focus on eligibility, credibility and faith. Don’t assume you fully understand the subject until you read the entire series of posts.  There are too many questions that tend to linger.

As information is discovered on this subject, it will be added here. The purpose of this post is to give the reader one-stop-shopping for information, historical, pro and con on this issues of Eligibility and Credibility. We will also post emerging information as we find it. Partially, we are trying to discover what enhances and detracts from Eligibility and Credibility.

The Bottom Line – (My Spin)

Prior to the 2008 election, a great deal of information was available on the “lack” of information surrounding Barrack Obama, as you can see above.  As one searches the historical links on the internet, the information was in the blogosphere (and is still there) … but  the same historical links to these subjects by the main stream media are rare indeed.  It should say something to us about that period in our history.  There was a great deal of news that was not reported. How much of the information in the links above was ever seen or heard in the MSM (main stream media)?

Even today, with the newer posts, you are seeing one of three things:

1. acknowledgment that some errors were made in reporting …
2. or…….(crickets chirping) …… continued silence …
3. or they continue reporting their “personal opinion” of the news (not the facts).

For example, Snopes, PolitiFact, Factcheck … all put the news online for you to see on Presidential Eligibility and they put it in writing, they may be right or wrong, but they took the risk of reporting.  In contract,what do you “hear” from the MSM on this subject?  Nothing … the issue for some reason doesn’t exist in the MSM and is even considered taboo on talk radio. Were it not for the internet, it would NOT exist at all.   Seeing something this important ignored, we must ask , “what else” doesn’t exist because it is not reported by the news media? It is now obvious journalists are selectively filtering and biasing the news…even a few of them are admitting it. In some ways, Barack Obama was more truthful portraying himself as a “blank screen” than the news media was by projecting their own image of him upon our screens … rather than giving us the truth (whether they agreed with it or not)!

1st Navy Union Jack - Liberty Threatened

Today I am flying the South Carolina Flag.  This is one of the first patriot flags on record. I fly this flag when politics are “relatively quiet.”  I had to chuckle when the left “caught” Sarah Palin with notes written on her palm. What was amazing was how the media and (left) internet picked up on it as some sort of “cheating” with “crib notes” as defined by MSNBC.

Oh Pleeeeze! After reading her book and seeing how the attacks on Sarah Palin are manufactured from the basic whole cloth of life, one becomes very suspicious of any attack on this woman.  Support her or not, the attacks are becoming more and more juvenile as this most recent “HandGate” demonstrates. This is probably the best example of why we need to Laugh Out Loud (LOL) at these so-called attackers.

The “Controversy”: For those totally out of the loop, a picture of Sarah Palin showed up on the Internet with a view of her left palm that had some writing on it.  The left blogosphere went crazy with how could we ever again attack the President for speaking to a sixth grade group using a double-mirrored TelePrompTer now that Sarah is “doing it too.”  Most times when I see an attack like this I get a little angry … but on this one I simply burst into laughter. This is, by far, the DUMBEST attack I’ve ever seen on this woman. And Andrea Mitchell is right at the top of the “stupid” list for this one.

Palm Notes are nothing new. I had to give speeches in my former employs, at conventions (a couple with even more people than were at Nashville).  So I know the feeling you have when you walk out on the stage and the light hits you. And you know you are putting everything you are at risk.  So how do you overcome the fear?  You PLAN DAMNED WELL!  You start with THREE SALIENT POINTS that you want the people to “walk-away” with when you are finished. You may speak for 45 minutes about many details of a subject, but THREE SALIENT POINTS must linger in the minds of your audience.

Plan around the points: You then plan your presentation around the three points, making sure they are reiterated often (tell ‘em, tell ‘em again, then tell em’ again!).  Then you practice, practice, practice.  I used PowerPoint most of the time and after the practice, I knew every word on every slide and what was coming up on the next one.  I only would “glance” at the screen to make sure the slide I was discussing was there … then turn back to the audience and tell them what was on it … most of the times, verbatim. But a “key” to making sure you hit the THREE SALIENT POINTS was to employ the Palm Notes.

Last Minute “Burn in” Just before you go out onto the stage, you write the THREE SALIENT POINTS onto your palm.  If you can’t remember them at that point, then you should just fold your tent and go home before the presentation. So you write them down, securing all three in your mind ONCE AGAIN.  This is not so you can “remember” them … this is so you “won’t forget them!”   Then as you are giving your presentation, you occasionally glance at your “palm notes” so you can emphasize one of the points. Of ten this “moment” happens when you are getting an applause or a laugh.  And more often than not, you could restate on of the points to underline a statement you made.  I saw a CEO that used a similar technique (we were on a panel together).  Just before we were introduced, he was writing on a little slip of paper, then stuck it into his shirt pocket.  I asked him about it and he said, it helps me remember the “key things” I need to cover.  Even though he never took the little paper from his pocket, the action of writing them down again just before the presentation worked for him.

Your audience deserves your BEST. When you are giving a presentation, whether it is a simple sales call (and there is no such thing!) or a major paid-for presentation, your audience, be it one person or thousands, deserves the best you can give them. They are giving you their precious time, entrusting you to fill it with knowledge they WANT to hear or they would not be before you. If your commitment is to your audience, and not a commitment of self-aggrandizement, then all your thoughts are on “what is good for my audience,” not on “what is good for me.”  If you can pull this off, you will have no fear because you are giving people something they want and obviously need.  But you need to use every trick in the book to make sure it happens.  Palm Notes are “my way” … Pocket Notes, like my friend used, may be your method.  Don’t mock it, try it!

Care about your audience! But to make fun of Palm Notes is making fun of someone who CARED ENOUGH to make the Palm Notes … not for herself, but for her audience … look at the contents:

I’d like to see President Obama make a 45 minute speech with 3 little notes like that!   But for me, the ultimate laugh came the next day when Sarah Palin gave a speech at Rick Perry’s rally. And once again, there was the Palm Note. Only this time to “stick it to the media” …

“Hi Mom!”

And this from the Cypress Times describing the media frenzy:

The Cypress Times: This [HandGate incident] reached high levels of absurdity very quickly, with slow motion replays and all. Frankly, it was simply delicious. It proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the left is done. They literally have nothing left. They have been defeated soundly by this housewife and mother from Wasilla, Alaska!

S.C. Flag - Relatively Calm

Today I am flying the Fort Moultrie Patriot Flag, a flag I fly when there is “Liberty Risky” discussion. The “Save-the-Children” do-gooders are at it again, this time with the Uniform Child Abduction Prevention Act.  It has a “globally appealing” moniker … but as usual, look closely at something sounds so good, the center is rotten.  South Carolina is considering this bill and we need to, once again, call our S.C. representatives and get this one stopped.

This law has not passed in any state that has closely reviewed this act. The New Jersey Law Commission reviewed this act and issued a final report on Dec 2008. Their report is attached. Here is the conclusion of their report:

Commission Recommendations

The Commission has considered the UCAPA but does not recommend its adoption. The UCAPA does not provide authority beyond the current powers of New Jersey judges in custody matters. The Commission did not address deficiencies in the Uniform Law or possible modifications to sections 7, 8 and 9 of the Official Text to correct them, concluding that the UCAPA is not necessary in light of the broad powers of the New Jersey chancery courts.

Parents become potential abductors in any act where they would:

(3(F) obtained their child(rens) medical records – an act all good parents must do… or

(3)(F) obtained their child(rens) school records – an act all good parents must do… or

(3)(F) obtained their child(rens) birth certificate – an act all good parents must do… or

These acts are not illegal, are committed by all good parents, and in no conceivable way shape or form indicate that a parent is a ‘risk’ for abducting their children!

Do you really want to have a civil court label a custodial (or noncustodial) parent as a ‘potential abductor’ because they:

(3)(E) Booked travel reservations (aka ‘travel documents’ in this act) for their elderly parents for their 50th wedding anniversary?

(3)(E) Booked airline tickets (aka ‘travel documents’ in this act) for themselves to go to the mainland for a business trip?

Making travel reservations is not a criminal act, and except for a few special cases would not be indicative that the parent is a possible child abductor.

Please read these two ‘risk factors’ closely. Is this really what you want to do?

(6) Lacks strong familial, financial, emotional, or cultural ties to the State or the united States;

(7) Has strong familial, financial, emotional, or cultural ties to another state or country;

These two lines set up EIGHT independent criteria. These criteria are very poorly defined and in most cases do not show that a parent is a risk for abducting their child.

• How much money must a parent have to avoid being labeled a ‘potential felon’ under the ‘lacks strong financial connections to a state’?
• How much money invested in another state is too much money to be labeled a ‘potential felon’ because they have ‘strong financial connections to your state (or some other state)?
• Just what sort of ‘strong emotional connection’ must be demonstrated to the the state in question?
• Just what sort of ‘strong emotional connection’ must not be made with another state such as South Carolina?
• How many relatives living in another state such as Maine is enough to trigger the ‘strong family connections to another state?
• How many relatives must live in South Carolina to avoid having ‘lack of strong family connections’ to the state?

In South Carolina:

2007 S 486 was referred to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on 3/1/07. It never progressed beyond the committee. 2009 S 383 reported favorably by the Judiciary on 3/11/2009; Passed by the Senate on 3/24/2009; and referred to the house committee on judiciary 3/25/2009. It did not pass the House committee.  I will keep updates coming in the “updates” area below.

I post this for “awareness” so the folks that read this blog will be informed about this potentially liberty/freedom-breaking legislation.  This is an excellent example of the creeping progressivism we are seeing in the country. As usual in a bill from the “do-gooders” … the legislation is well-intended. But the result attacks liberty and freedom. It would “help” in one or two media-hyped cases, but it would “hurt” millions of parents who would get caught in the legislative net.

Ft Moultrie Flag - Liberty Risky Discussion

Today I’m flying the Sons of Liberty Flag, a patriot flag I fly when Liberty and Freedom is lost.  …. and have you noticed that we’ve lost them?  Hard to see?  Difficult to measure?  Well maybe a little, but … ?  Look back, not at yesterday or the day before,  look back 1 year ago.  Now can you more clearly see the lost liberties and freedoms?  You didn’t notice because progressives move LEFT in “baby steps.”  Ah, just a little more to the left, …. there, see, that wasn’t so bad was it? But after a YEAR of it, it’s not baby steps, it’s a giant lunge to the left for the United States of America. No more ” progressive baby steps” for me! (What’s a “Progressive?” … Find out HERE).

What’s the difference? Often people ask what is the difference between a Marxist and a Progressive.  Although the end game goal is the same, the method used to carry out the goal is much different.

Marxism achieves power through REVOLUTION.

(… one (baby) step at a time)

Above are the 10 Commandments of Progressism. When we look back at this year (if you are a conservative like I am) you will feel you are in the midst of a revolution with those 10 commandments as the mantra.  Your conservative world has been shattered by the radical left that gained unstoppable power and who lives by those 10 ideals (a power increased by the of any viable opposition in the Democrat congress). You can almost smell the smoke and feel the still vibrating  brass of the cannons, but you had barely noticed. You now easily recognize the unrestrained arrogance of a naïve and inexperienced President and a congress that does what IT wants to solidify power while refusing to listen to the voters. They are not even listening to the people who foolishly voted for them.  We see blatant lies daily from the Office of the President of the United States, this isn’t just an idle statement on my part, YOU can see it on TV every day.  Today, with the digital technology we have, we can VISUALLY see our President say something one day, and the next day say something the opposite. This in itself is breathtaking, but that this man and the people who surround him are not ashamed of being caught in lies. They are following Alinski’s Rules for Radicals, that states the “ends justifies the means” so they continue  in this hypocrisy without a moral thought of impropriety and without any hint of guilt …  is beyond belief.  America, we have never been “here” before!

Example, the Health Care Bill. President Obama promised over and over that we will be able to keep our own doctors and our own insurance. He attacked anyone saying the bill said otherwise and labeled them Obstructionists. An indelicate way of saying those who oppose the bill are lying.  Yet now, he says, “we want to keep that message about being able to keep your doctor and keep your insurance, but it looks like some people “snuck” some of those other things into the bill.”  Huh? You mean the “obstructionists you attacked weren’t lying? Are you telling us now they were reading the bill correctly?  … or do you  mean YOU were lying?  What he is really saying is, “…oh well, only a “little of that sneaky stuff” is in there, but don’t worry about it.”

The C-SPAN Transparency And of course the campaign promise Obama made about Health Care, “It will be a transparent process, we will televise the debate on C-SPAN.”  Eight times he said this during his campaign, and the video is available on YouTube to prove he said this. And the result of those promises? The process was not transparent, it was not televised on C-SPAN, it was fabricated with HUGE DOLLAR DEALS behind closed … and locked… doors. Democrats on the “inside” bribing other Democrats with our tax dollars to get key votes while  Republicans and the public were  literally locked out of the process! (And we have video of the locked doors!).

And there is the point of this post. One baby step at a time, one lie at a time, one broken promise at a time, the entire process evolves to the left.  A promise made, and a vote given in return, then the promise broken, and instead of retribution, simply a shrug of the shoulders and another promise made. The progressives move us further and further to the left, moving ever further away from our Constitution. As a result, our liberties and our freedoms fade.  And this happens while they accuse anyone who opposes the “tiny, inconsequential” baby steps of being Obstructionists and liars.

Bipartisanism? The President whines that if we could just be “bipartisan” things would start to work.  But the Progressive’s view of “bipartisan” means you have to agree with their baby steps to the left. Ask a Progressive to take a baby step to the right and they scream “teabagger!”  So much for bipartisan, it’s a code word for continuing the march toward socialism. There was nothing “bipartisan” about locking the Republicans and the Public out of the Health Care discussions.  But now we KNOW who the liars are don’t we? We have the proof all around us. We have the digital video of their promises, and of their denials. We are up to our necks in Progressive (sic “Liberal”), Democrat sponsored lies and subterfuge, America is drowning in Socialism.

And this goes on and on and on, one “tiny, inconsequential” baby step at a time … marching EVERY DAY, just an inch at a time, to the Left.  Most Americans are still working, or trying to find a job and don’t have a lot of time to spend during the day watching for the sounds of the marching baby steps to the Left. But when they look back to one year ago, suddenly, they notice the pendulum has swung far to the left and they are appalled. General Motors and Chrysler now “taken over” by the government? Corporate salaries set by a (unelected) “Pay Czar”?  A 13 TRILLION dollar Debt?  10%, some say 17% unemployment? Thousands of jobs still being lost on a weekly basis, 20,000 last month, 10 MILLION jobs short of the President’s “promise”?  A President, in the midst of this saying we need to go even further in debt to get out of the problem? And a White House that says it has “saved  two and a half million jobs, in the face of losing MILLIONS of jobs?!  So even the American who hasn’t been paying attention on a daily basis suddenly wakes up and realizes there has been a REVOLUTION … by almost unnoticeable baby steps.  The result of the Progressive’s creeping “evolution” to the left or the Marxist abrupt “revolution” to the left is, in the end, the same one year later.  And we’ve never been “here” before!

But America is noticing. America is now clearly seeing the results of CREEPING PROGRESSIVISIM.  They are Waking Up! And when they open their politically sleepy eyes and look around they barely recognize their own country. Once bold and respected in the world, the USA is now somewhat of a laughing-stock. Easily pushed around by the likes of Iran (who wants to kill us).  We “Mirandize” terrorists to “tell them of their legal rights?” Huh?  What legal rights, they aren’t citizens are they?  We decided to give the man who planned the 9-11 attacks an “open and free trial” in New York City … the very city where he KILLED 3000 people!  And at a cost of $250 MILLION dollars to keep him safe while he uses this bully pulpit to spew forth his version of a religion that has a goal of killing as many Americans as possible. We are finally noticing a debt that we are realizing we can never pay back. We are now a “debtor” nation … and beholding to people who would love to see us bow to their power … China.  We have become their paper tiger … something America has never been.  And we are ashamed …. and we are becoming frightened … and we’ve never felt that way before!

The Tug of War between the left and the right will always continue.  And there are people at the far end of either end of the rope that can be frightening in their own way. But the “struggle” of late has moved the rope far to the left.  And when a culture moves left, history has proven it ALWAYS ends in disaster.  We are starting to see the fruits of our leftward drift. A banking system on its knees, a stock market that is “growing” in a “jobless recovery” (an economic oxymoron!) … which is another phrase for BUBBLE and FINANCIAL DISASTER!  This economy is  “growing”   if you view it with the same smoke and mirrors used to prove Man-Made Global Warming and debunked totally by ClimateGate. We could be on the verge of a financial disaster never met … and this from the “fiscal responsible” Obama administration. (At least that’s why my Dem friends told me they voted for him! … another broken promise?).

“To solve the problem, lets use the solution again” … they are still employing the echos and faded  campaign energy of “Hope and Change” … and now, a year later, it is turning into the “same old” poison.  It doesn’t take an Einstein to know that doing the same thing over and over will not change the result. Everything that has not worked, will now be “doubled down” … another stimulus bill … oh, forgive me, “we are told not to call it that ” (Robert Gibbs) … it is a “jobs” bill now.  (Another Progressive ploy, if it doesn’t work the first time, just change its name … same solution, same gal in a different dress!).  Instead of tax cuts, something we know from history that ALWAYS works, this President spends even more of the money he is printing.  Small business, where jobs are made cannot hire under the added taxation facing them. The spiral continues unabated … no, not “unabated” … “accelerated!”  And I believe this is being done not out of naivety, but with purpose. This is how the Progressive solidify their power. They cause a crisis and convince the public only the government can solve the problem.

But with this doom and gloom, there is a glimmer of light, the dawn is breaking! People are “getting it.”  A truly grass-roots …. one person at a time …. Tea Party Movement has sprung up around the country. This “movement” is criticized that it doesn’t know where it is going … I disagree. It may not be “organized” but it is going RIGHT! It is seen as “obstructionist” by the Progressives, but actually that is the “hope” of the progressives. The fear of the Progressives is that the movement will take all the progressive gains they’ve made back to the right. They could live with “status quo” for now, they’ve moved us radically left. They fear the Tea Party Movement and the increasing awakening of the Independents … because they know this is not obstructionism, this is movement … in the opposite direction.  The results of the elections in Virginia, New Jersey and now Massachusetts (Ted Kennedy’s seat went to a REPUBLICAN?) … are not “baby steps” they are SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT back to the right … where MOST Americans know this country should be.

The Tide is Turning Once  Independents and misguided Democrats get over the “historical (media induced) hype” of electing “the First Black President” … they will finally realize that he’s nothing but an elegant and some think good-looking … ideologue.  They will begin to realize this man will, before this is finished, discredit the black community and set it back for generations. Unfortunately, people will associate any potentially excellent black candidate in the future with Barack Obama.  And people will not vote for that person because there will be no trust, the trust will have been spent. This is unfair to the black community because the only thing “historical” about this last election is that we elected the most radically left administration in the history of the United States. People are beginning to see this person not as a political Messiah, but a political Pariah.  Democrats are beginning to distance themselves from “The One.”  And those he has reached out to help have failed. He is becoming a creäture of political jeopardy. The generic ballot according to Rasmussen is 45% to 25% now in favor of the Republicans.  “Solid” Democrat seats are in double-digit polling  jeopardy.  The tide has turned.

I am not an Obstructionist. I am not willing to just STOP the movement to the left with its marching, seemingly inconsequential baby steps.  I am going to do everything I can do in this political tug-of-war. I’m going to JERK THE ROPE HARD back to the right. By doing this, I will be taking back all the baby steps of the Progressives that have nearly ruined the United States of America over this past year. I went to 912 in DC, I’m going to a Tea Party next month, I fly a different Patriot Flag every day. I do this blog, I work on my “Democrat” neighbors who fell for mainstream media’s marketing of “Hope and Change.” These are the people who thought Jon Stewart, CNN and Chris Matthews were “news sources.” People who are now watching FOX … in DROVES!  Look at the ratings at Fox!

I am not an obstructionist, I’m an activist. I’ve always been too busy earning a living to “get involved.”  Now, just try to stop me.  If we are only “Stopping leftward movement” then we are accepting where we are and will simply decay in this dark place.  I don’t like it here, I’m moving back to the light, I’m JERKING the rope as hard as I can to the right … and there are a lot of people pulling with me.  (You would have felt it too if you were in a crowd of 1,750,000 people on 912 in DC!). We WILL take this country back … and with no need for stealthy “baby steps” …  A hard, bold move to the right … RIGHT in the face of the progressives who would destroy our country, our liberty, our freedom and our safety.  When I see a progressive baby step … I’ll shout it out … I’ll point it out … I’ll sound the alarm.  And I’ll put it right here for you to see on The Patriot’s Flag. I’ll march with you, I’ll pray with you and I’ll go to the gun range with you!

Join the Party of KNOW!  We need to say “NO” when Harry Reid puts up another Communist or Mao enthusiast for some nomination, we need to say NO to more spending, NO to more taxes, NO to revising the history books in our schools, NO to dumbing down our kids about the virtues of this great nation, and NO to anything that even looks like it is leaning “left.”  The more you KNOW, the more you will say NO.  Let the Libs call it what they want, but we spell it KNOW as in the “Party of KNOW!”

So what are you? Are you a Progressive, still drinking the same poison Kool Aid that already has set our country into a financial black hole?  A bewildered Democrat wondering what has happened to your father’s Democrat party? An Obstructionist who can “live with the problems” but don’t want to go a step further, happy with just saying “no”?  Or are you an activist that, like me, have decided WE don’t like it here and we are going to take our country back to what made it great? Stopping the left baby steps is not enough … We are going to “take it RIGHT back where it belongs!”

Sons of Liberty Flag - Liberty LOST!

Today I am flying the Title of Liberty Flag, a (new) Patriot flag I fly when Liberty overcomes Tyranny!  The House in South Carolina has passed the affirmation of the 10th amendment with an added bonus amendment that reaffirms the 6th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The Sovereignty Resolution passed the State House of Representatives today (2/2/10); however, since it was amended, it most go back to the Senate for approval.

On Sept 29, 2009 I posted a blog “Got State Sovereignty?”  This post covers the subject of State Sovereignty with many links for proofs and references. From that post, here’s a review:

What is State Sovereignty?

When the Constitution was being ratified during the 1780s, the 10th Amendment was understood to be the linchpin that held the entire Bill of Rights together. The amendment states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

First of all, it is the new political “buzzword” replacing “States Rights,” a term used mostly during the era of desegregation And from that time acquired a relatively negative connotation. Renamed, “States Rights” (which is still valid) is now being  called  “State Sovereignty.” Same valid concept, just a different name.  To fully appreciate the concept and reasons for State Sovereignty, we must initially look into the wording of the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, also part of the Bill of Rights. The Amendment is surprisingly short and straightforward:

The Item had passed the Senate, and now has passed the house … it now goes back to the Senate for final adjustment and should be passed and signed soon.  Here is the wording of the recently passed legislation for the reaffirmation of the 10th Amendment with the attendant reaffirmation of the 6th Amendment.

• The 10th Amendment clearly states:
  • “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

The following Concurrent Resolution was taken up:

SMITH proposed the following Amendment No. 8 (COUNCIL\AGM\19805AB10), which was tabled: Amend the concurrent resolution, as and if amended, page 4, immediately after line 22, by inserting: Whereas, the Sixth Amendment to the United States provides “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense”; and
Whereas, by guaranteeing a speedy public trial for criminal offenses, requiring trial by a jury, guaranteeing the right to know the charges against the accused, guaranteeing the right to legal counsel for the accused, and guaranteeing that the accused may require witnesses to attend the trial and testify in the presence of the accused, the Sixth Amendment provides every South Carolinian peace of mind in knowing the wrongly accused is protected from the tragedy of wrongful conviction, imprisonment, or other punishment. Therefore, the protections afforded by the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution are of upmost importance to the Citizens of South Carolina and the State of South Carolina; and / Amend the concurrent resolution further, page 6, immediately after line 13, by inserting: Be it further resolved that the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, affirms its support of the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution. /Renumber sections to conform.

A little history for South Carolina: The use of the 10th Amendment in conjunction with nullification garnered much attention in 1828, when the federal government passed a tariff that southerners believed affected them disproportionately. When the 1828 tariff was complemented by another in 1832, Vice President John C. Calhoun resigned the Vice Presidency to lead his home state of South Carolina in pursuit of an “ordinance of nullification,” which was no less a declaration of the sovereignty of each individual state within the union than the declarations now being made.

Calhoun was simply exercising what he recognized to be his state’s right to defend liberty within its borders by rejecting the dictates of an overbearing central government. While his efforts culminated in a tense affair referred to as the “nullification crisis,” which saw everything from threats of a federal invasion of South Carolina to an ongoing and near union-rending debate over national power vs. state’s rights, they also succeeded in turning back the tariffs that had been passed in spite of the Constitutional limits on federal power.

The 10th Amendment Center is, without a doubt, the best current refer to site for 10th Amendment information. If you have an interest in this subject, you should go there and discover all the related issues to this central issue.

With an out-of-control Federal Government, the 10th Amendment is a recognized Constitutional Barrier between total federal tyranny and the basic liberties and freedoms that were guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.  It is more important than ever to re-affirm this part of the Constitution first as a warning to Federal imposition and second as a legal barrier to Federal imposition.   We cannot afford the mandates being placed on taxpayers by the Federal Government.  If the “blue” states want to pay for the mandates, that is their “right” … in South Carolina, we are deciding we do not want to pay for the Federal mandates.
