Flag Day 2010

Today I am flying the flag of the United States of America. This is “Flag Day” 2010.  The Continental Congress, June 14th in 1779, adopted the Stars and Stripes as the National flag. The first flag day was in 1916, when Woodrow Wilson made a proclamation that officially established June 14th as “Flag Day.”  In August of 1949, an Act of Congress established “National Flag Day.” The week of June 14 is designated as “National Flag Week.” During National Flag Week, the president (but probably not the one we have now) will issue a proclamation urging U.S. citizens to fly the American flag for the duration of that week. The flag should also be displayed on all Government buildings. Some organizations hold parades and events in celebration of America’s national flag and everything it represents.

TalkingSides.com: We all know the story of Betsy Ross stitching the first flag (which may or may not be 100% true according to historians). But especially on Flag Day we should also remember another part of our flag’s history. In 1767 the Sons of Liberty, an organization of American patriots, adopted their own flag of nine vertical stripes (5 red and 4 white). These stripes represented the nine colonies who attended the 1765 Stamp Act Congress which was the first organized American resistance to British rule. Many consider this Congress to be the genesis of our American government and that flag proudly represented the fact that, via their delegates, the people of those nine colonies stood up against what they believed was unfair.

Every day is “Flag Day” at The Patriot’s Flag.

With or without a proclamation from the President traditionally asking the USA flag be flow all week, we honor that tradition at The Patriot’s Flag and the USA flag will proudly fly on our front porch all week.

Political Protests and the Flag

We NEVER fly the USA Flag up-side-down as a “political protest.”  We feel that is disrespectful to our national symbol and it will not happen here.  It is not necessary to use the USA flag for “political protest” when there are so many other flags you can fly for that purpose.  But there are many other historical patriot flags that have symbolic significance and can help you “make your point” without disgracing “Old Glory”.

The Flags we Fly, and Why …

Our USA flag flies on all designated USA patriotic holidays. (Memorial Day, Flag day (week), 4th of July, etc).  It is also flown in times of national mourning with the black mourning ribbon attached to the staff.  The rest of the time, we fly various Patriot Flags.  The patriot flag flown indicates the “tenor” or “subject” of The Patriot’s Flag blog. The “ultimate” Patriot’s Flag is the flag of the United States of America.

  • Gadsden Flag – When the subject is taxes, bailouts, USA financial discussions or Tea Parties
  • 1st Navy Union Jack – Flown when Liberty is “threatened” (pending legislation, Executive order, etc)
  • Ft Moultrie Flag – flown when there is “Liberty Risky discussion” … proposed legislation, etc.
  • S.C. Flag – Flown when politics are relatively quiet and the day’s post is non-political
  • S.C. Sovereignty Flag - Flown for 10th amendment posts or mentions of state sovereignty
  • Sons of Liberty Flag – Flown when the post discusses Freedom or Liberty LOST
  • Title of Liberty Flag – Flown when the posts shows Freedom and Liberty are maintained or strengthened
  • Ribbons on the staff: Red Ribbons are added when Liberty is preserved, Black Ribbons when Liberty is lost.

Memorial Day – 2010

Today, I am flying the USA Mourning Flag.  It is Memorial Day, 2010. A time to remember the sacrifice those before us made to give us what we have today.

(A black ribbon is attached to a short-masted flag for remembrance and mourning.)

… that you’ve probably never heard!

Oh thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!

praise the power that had made and preserved us as a nation

The Bottom Line


How many Americans today have little or no knowledge of the importance of this day or the sacrifices that were made that we honor on this day. I am disappointed in my country for the first time in my life. I am disappointed in my fellow Americans that allowed this to happen … they have either forgotten, or they were taught wrong … by parents? by teachers? by misguided peers wearing Che T-Shirts?  Those who caused this are about to discover what it is like to live without liberty and freedom.  Those of us who are trying to take it back, already understand. Obama’s War (Afghanistan)

Today, (now that over 1000 Americans have lost their lives in Afghanistan), I decided to start an “Obama’s War Post where we will add many links as the story unfolds. And today, with this post referring to our brave men and women dying for an unclear cause, I am flying the USA Flag with the mourning ribbon. My intent is to recognize the SILENCED extreme effort being made by our troops … unrecognized by the Obama-controlled news media. At the Patriot’s Flag, we will not be silent.

My philosophy: I am not “anti-war” I am “anti-politically correct war.” I believe if there is a reason big enough to “go to war” then carpet bombing should be on the table, NOT avoiding collateral damage. But to fight a war with “rules of engagement” that defer ANY power to the enemy thus jeopardizing the safety of our troops is WRONG.  This is OBAMA’s war, he is “fighting” it with “his” liberal view of war and the blessing of Democrats and Progressives . The result is mounting casualties and deaths of our troops for “good intentions” and “suspect reasoning.” Either fight to win this war or bring our brave troops home to safety. But DO NOT keep them in harm’s way for “political correctness.”  The purpose of this post is to document the bravery of our soldiers and the insanity of the “progressive war philosophy”. This “President” (quotes intended!)  is not paying attention to the war, and he never has: (Obama voting “PRESENT” on Afghanistan).

USA Flag - Day of Remembrance

We The People

Today I am flying the flag of the United States of America. I fly this PATRIOT flag when I post something extremely important to Liberty and Freedom for our great country. I hope every Tea Party Group and every person finds this post and this video. Everyone must see it. It is a gentle, but stern call to arms.

The Declaration of Independence “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness”

There has been a socialist revolution in our country since November of 2009. It came in the form of an undocumented leader, for whom we cannot account, and with soaring slogan of “Hope and Change” that lured the unquestioning masses to give power to an unknown entity. That entity, now exposed, was nothing more than a socialist who immediately used his new power to change the form of government under which we are living.  This is unacceptable.

The revolution of 2010 is beginning. There is a second, “not so quiet” but orderly revolution coming in November of 2010 when we will take back our beloved country and begin returning it to the ideals of the founding fathers. Since it is the Right of the People to “alter or abolish” a government that becomes destructive and institute a new government more likely to effect our Safety and Happiness … we WILL exercise that right in the November  election of 2010.  And for any American who loves our country, failure to take back our country is not an option.

We the People …

Dear President Obama,

“We The People” have stated resolutely we reject your vision for our country. You claim you have not heard us. “We The People” have assembled across America resiting your efforts to subvert our constitution and undermine our liberty. You claim you have not seen us. Since you have not acknowledged our message, let us here present it once more. for if, as President Wilson said, a Leader’s ear must ring with the voices of the people, the time has come.

Our greatest treasure is freedom – the absence of restraints on our ability to thank and to act. The corollary of freedom is individual responsibility. We believe in the power of the individual. A few years ago President Bush said, “History moves toward freedom because the desire for freedom is written in every human heart.” Let us add that we will preserve it only as long as devotion to freedom is expressed in the hear of our actions.

When President Lincoln dedicated Gettysburg National Cemetery he declared, “It is for us the living …to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here thus so nobly advanced.” That unfinished cause for which our soldiers willingly go to battle and for which so many have given their lives is a free United States of America. It has been nearly one hundred fifty years and the work President Lincoln spoke of is not finished. In fact, that work will never be finished.

Freedom is the capacity for self-determination. It is not an entity but a condition, and conditions change. Freedom can expand, yet so can it contract. You promised change when you took office, Mr. President, but subjugation is not change we wanted or will accept. You have expanded government, violated our constitution, confounded laws, seized private industry, destroyed jobs, perverted our economy, curtailed free speech, corrupted our currency, weakened our national security and endangered our sovereignty.

By compromising our nation’s cultural, legal and economic institutions, you are ensuring that our children will never achieve the same quality of life as we enjoy today. Through generational theft, you are robbing the unborn of opportunity.

This is not acceptable. Not in America. We did not become a strong nation through hope but rather through self-reliance. No one better understands the relationship between individual achievement, dignity and strength than our armed forces. Through ever war our soldiers have held this nation’s destiny in their hands. They have not failed us. They cherish freedom enough that they are willing to die for it. Our duty to them and to ourselves is to treasure freedom enough to live up to it.

We accept the challenge, Mr. President. That is why we are assembling across the land to deliver our message to you as often and in every way we can. Dismiss us at your political peril. Our great nation is a Republic. We will not accept tyranny under any guise. Your policy to redistribute the fruits of our labor is Statism and will not be tolerated.

By our honor, Mr. President, We vow forever to resist coercive government in America. Patriots will not stand silent as you attempt to dismantle the greatest nation on earth. “We the People” will defend our liberty, we will protect our beloved country and America’s exceptionalism will prevail.

Get Involved – 2010 is Coming

Today I am still flying the United States Flag with the Memorial Ribbon. I am flying this in honor of Pearl Harbor Day, Dec 7th and this morning I just didn’t feel like changing it.  It is still the most beautiful flag I have.  But to keep it freely flying, people have to get involved in their government and help change the direction of the “hopey/changey thingy” going on that is destroying our country with blatant Socialism.

Political Train Wreck!

A Political Train Wreck! A Health Care bill that we don’t want (or need) is being forced upon us … not to “reform” the best health care in the world, but to increase our dependence on government and move money from those who have earned it to those who have not. We have an EPA that is declaring, on their own without input from any of our representatives, that CO2, the minute gas we exhale is a pollutant. We have a President that as Commander in Chief, takes 11 months to “take the reigns” of the Afghanistan war and 3 months to act upon a way forward from the generals he has chosen. We have a President and a Congress that speaks about creating jobs ($260,000 per job with the stimulus) but legislates to supress jobs … creating an uncertainty that would keep any business owner from hiring employees. (Making us wonder if this is the plan … to make more people dependent upon the government). We have a sinking economy that can no longer be blamed on the Bush Administration and a central government that believes printing money and giving it to people (eg Evita in Argentina?) will make the people love them, but bankrupt the nation again making people dependent upon a government that is corrupting itself. And the lies and broken promises … bipartisanship, CSPAN Cameras covering health care debates (instead closed doors) … (the list is too long for this post).

Worried?  If not, then you are not paying attention and there is no hope for you.  But if you are worried, then it is time to GET INVOLVED.

1. Know the ISSUES!

involved2Do you know what issues are before congress right now?  … not just the ones you “hear” about on the [state-run] media outlets like CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC … but the issues that are being discussed and voted upon by your Senators and Representatives … often not even covered by the national media.

  • Both House.Gov and Senate.Gov have web pages that will give you current proceedings of these bodies. Click on these links and bookmark them for future reference.
  • WashingtonWatch.com is an excellent source of seeing the issues before they become law. Both Senate and House bills are listed here. You can click on a link for each and go directly a synopsis of the bill. It shows the projected “Cost per Family” and gives a rough poll on for/against.  Try it now.
  • Use the “right rail” of the Patriot’s Flag … the area to the right of this text. There are important links there that will direct you to INFORMATION.  Also check out the REFERENCES page … I’ve got many ways for you to discover information already “linked” for you.
  • The Rasmussen page (linked in the right rail) is an excellent source on issues (and some of them are obscure). You can get a DAILY UPDATE from Rasmussen on the latest polls. An easy “sign up” and no spam is involved.  This is a great way to be kept up to date on issues.
  • DO NOT rely on what others may “tell” you… and here I must include TV and Radio as well as the bridge club. Those are “opinions” and “everyone has one”.  THINK FOR YOURSELF, and to do that you don’t “repeat” what you heard, you “research” what you heard. Dig into the issue, make up your own mind .. and have an opinion you can back up with authority.

2. Use your VOICE!

voiceThere are many ways now, via the internet, to “speak” to your representatives. You always hear people say “call your congressman” or “write your congressman” … but can you do it with a simple click of the mouse?  Here are some easy ways to accomplish this SIMPLE task:

  • Congress.Org is a great “one stop” way of getting started. Here you can find hot topics, current issues, and by putting in your zip code, you will be given the email addresses of your Senators and Congressmen.
  • While there sign up for MegaVote. This is a free service. It sends you the voting results of YOUR representatives (showing all legislation, many of the bills you’ve never heard of!). When you get the email, if you have a question about the vote, the site is set up to let you immediately send an email back to your representative. (With your picture if you like!).
  • Senate Phone Numbers and Emails are HERE.
  • House Phone Numbers and Emails are HERE
  • Contact the White House EMAIL … Comments: 202-456-1111. Switchboard: 202-456-1414
  • Another excellent source of “news” is [Conservative]  The Free Republic.  It is a free site and you can “talk back” on the issues and read through other peoples’ comments.  An hour with the Free Republic will give you all the news you need to know and much of it you will never see on television.  Sign up for FREE … you don’t get any spam or emails from them. My login name on that site is ThePatriotsFlag … so you can watch what I’m saying if you like.

3. Take ACTION!

actionTake action by first getting yourself INFORMED.  Read, Read, Read.  I’m not going to give a list of books to read (you can get that from Oprah), but as an example, mention Sarah Palin and watch the reaction. Democrats go nuts, Republicans are hesitant, Tea Party People are enthusiastic.  How can this same person be all these to people?  Read the book Going Rogue.  So many things you have “heard” are not true, and there are many other things you will learn that you never saw discussed on TV.  The bottom line here, DO NOT listen to what other people think or what other people have read… READ it yourself, RESEARCH it yourself, then make up your own mind.

  • Once you know the issues. find out where your representatives stand on the issue.  Find you Senators’ and Representatives’ web sites. Read what they are saying. (Caution: Lindsey Graham’s site still thinks he is a Conservative!)
    • Another way is to put in their name and and issue into Google, like: Jim DeMint Health Care.  You’ll get both pro and con information … READ BOTH, make up YOUR OWN mind!
  • Write them, Call them, Tell them what you think … “how to do this” is listed above in #2.
  • Get involved in the demonstrations that you can attend locally. Getting involved in events like these give you a feeling of ownership of your government. (I did it, I was at the 9-12 Rally in Washington DC)  You’ll meet many other people like yourself and find out you are “not alone” in this fight for the Freedom and Liberty of our great country!

4. DO it AGAIN!

againandagainOK, did you do all that?  Got everything bookmarked so you can participate at the click of a mouse?  Good for you. Now use the bookmarks … OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER.

  • When one million people call the government it has an impact.  You are only “one” of a “million” …and that seems insignificant, but it is not.  And if you call twice, and so do others, then two million calls/emails have been received … call again and it is 3 million.  Three calls on YOUR part can have a huge impact on your representatives.  Burning the lines to the extent of having the telephones and servers overwhelmed sends an important message when a particular issue is before the congress.


The Bottom Line


There are about 360,000,000 of us out here in the country. There are about 460 people in Washington, DC “deciding” everything for us (did you vote for CO2 being a pollutant? Do you know The Safe School Czar’s latest moves?). And recently, they have not done a good job in representing the feelings of the people they represent, the result is a political train wreck, and you and I are on the train!

But let the damn thing jump the track
And see who catches hell.

The politicians driving this train are not doing what we want, and WE will “catch the hell” of what they are doing.  (Will congress have to use the health care plan they make us use … nope!) Go to Rasmussen and see the daily polls … after you’ve read them, stand back and give it an “overall” look … on most of the issues, the congress is not doing what the majority of people want them to do. We have a run-away congress being led by an ultra left wing Socialist. Both entities are in office because the American People were NOT informed, and because they DID NOT take action.

The 2010 elections are coming soon … start making your difference now!

  • We have an important election coming up in 2010. In some ways it could be the “last” free election we have. If the present Congress and President are not halted in their march toward Socialism, we may not get another chance to stop them. Get involved RIGHT NOW to prepare for 2010.

… and YOU can make the difference …..

  1. Get Involved and KNOW THE ISSUES (don’t rely on some other person’s opinions, KNOW FOR YOURSELF!)
  2. Use your VOICE … be heard … find YOUR WAY of being heard, maybe use methods I’ve listed above.
  3. Take Action … don’t just sit there … DO SOMETHING … NOW!
  4. Do it Again … and again, and again, and again … till “they” hear you!  Then watch the voting results, (sign up for Megavote so you can see if they are hearing you!)
